Gibraltar (18 November 2024) - Today, 24-year-old Slovenian sailor Matic Vrecko embarks on an ambitious solo Atlantic crossing from Gibraltar aboard his family’s Elan 450 Karpo. His destination, over 5000NM away is Antigua, where he will lead a crew of nine Slovenians in the prestigious 2025 RORC Caribbean 600, starting February 24th.
Over the past four years, Matic has honed his skills cruising and racing Karpo, including two editions of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Karpo will also compete in the RORC Nelson’s Cup Series. This exciting prelude to the Caribbean 600 combines inshore races with the thrilling 360° Round Antigua Race. Kicking off on February 18th as a standalone event with its own prizegiving, the RORC Nelson’s Cup promises intense action on the water, camaraderie ashore and is open to boats that are not competing in the RORC Caribbean 600.
